Expert Opinion | How To Throw A Perfect Dinner Party with Your’s Truly Cate O’Connor
Last weekend Dancing & Dessert was excited to play planner, stylist and host to The Helm who were throwing a launch dinner.
The event was to toe the line of relaxed and refined, filled with rich food and experience.
But how do you host a perfectly intimate dinner?
1. CREATE INTIMACY
First and foremost it is imperative to begin with the venue (or your home) - understand it's personality, it's light, what kind of service it provides and build from there.
To create intimacy I love to include warmer colours, candles, organic textures and rich details.
For The Helm we made sure the flowers from Bedford + Company felt lose and organic to match the urban decor at The Kitchen Table NYC. it's important, no matter how big or small the project, that we articulate perfectly our vision.
2. IF MUSIC BE THE FOOD OF LOVE, PLAY ON
To begin the mood should feel chill, relaxed, there to take the edge off the meet and greet. Toward the end of the evening pick up the beat. I'm never adverse to dancing around the dinner table.
Loving these perfect Playlists from cool girl Cheyenne Miller.
3. SOMETHING TO REMEMBER ME BY
One of my favourite things about a small guest list is, because your funds and time aren't stretched, you have the ability to make your humans feel oh so special by giving them something to take home.
4. GUEST LIST
No one should know everyone at the table, a truly wonderful dinner party should create a social dynamic that's never existed before.
5. SURPRISE AND DELIGHT
No matter what kind of event you're throwing surprising your guests will never go out of fashion. For an intimate dinner I would recommend a coffee cart that delivers espresso martinis, a short set from a musician that suits the tone of the evening, or a caricaturist there to capture the evening as a sketch or painting.
